With their backs against the wall and frustration simmering from two tough road losses, the San Francisco Bays came home and erupted, both at the plate and in spirit. Behind a six-run first inning and a relentless offensive onslaught, the Bays rolled to an 8–2 victory over the Boston Bruins, trimming the series deficit to 2–1.
The day began with a sense of urgency. Ben Lively, pitching for the Bays, worked around an early error and base hit in the top of the first, escaping with a strikeout of Giancarlo Stanton, the first of three times Stanton would go down swinging.
In the bottom half, San Francisco’s bats immediately took control. Jurickson Profar opened with a leadoff home run, and from there, the inning unraveled for Boston starter Hunter Greene. ,
A single, walk, and hit-by-pitch loaded the bases before Yainer Díaz ripped a two-run single. Lane Thomas added another RBI base hit, and Kevin Newman doubled home two more. By the time the inning ended, it was 6–0 and the Bruins were reeling.
Boston managed a brief response in the third, stringing together three singles and taking advantage of an error to make it 6–2, but San Francisco quickly restored order. Ketel Marte crushed a solo homer in the bottom of the inning, and an errant throw by Boston’s Pavin Smith added another, stretching the lead to 8–2.
From there, Lively and the Bays’ bullpen did the rest, keeping the Bruins quiet the rest of the way. The only blemish came in the form of tension, Boston pitchers hit three batters, including Profar, who left the game after being plunked in the sixth.
Despite the bruises, the Bays finally found their footing. The win gives them life — and momentum, as they prepare for a pivotal Game Four matchup, with Michael Wacha taking on David Peterson.
If the bats stay this hot, the Bays may yet make this a series. W – Lively (1–0)
L – Greene (0–1)
HR – Profar (SFB), Marte (SFB)
